Gaillardia aristata

The Blanket Flower, with its hot-hued petals in reds and yellows, instantly brings a sun-kissed, Southwestern vibe to your garden. It’s a North American native wildflower named for its resemblance to the brightly colored blankets crafted by Indigenous peoples. Although it was identified in the late 1700s by European botanists, Gaillardia aristata made its commercial debut in American seed catalogs around the mid-1800s, quickly earning praise for its ability to flourish in drought-prone and sunny locations. Its enduring popularity stems from the cheerful color palette and its appeal to pollinators.

Growing Tips & Stratification:

  • Soil & Sun: Thrives in full sun and tolerates poor to sandy soils.
  • Sowing: For best results, sow in spring or late fall.
  • Stratification: Optional but beneficial. A short cold stratification (2–4 weeks in a moistened medium in the fridge) can improve germination rates, especially in cooler climates.

1/4-1/2tsp seed minimum per packet. Germ 82% 01/25.
