Calendula officinalis.

Bright, cheerful, and wonderfully resilient, Pacific Beauty Calendula is a favorite for bringing quick color to the garden. The bold yellow and orange blossoms are also well-loved for cut flower arrangements and for attracting beneficial insects such as pollinators and hoverflies. Calendula’s edible petals make a lovely garnish or a colorful addition to salads. Often called “Pot Marigold,” this hardy annual tolerates cooler temperatures and can bloom from early summer into the first frosts.

Calendula has been cultivated for centuries in Europe, prized in cottage gardens for both ornamental and herbal uses. The specifically bred Pacific Beauty mix gained popularity on the West Coast of the U.S. in the mid-20th century. It began appearing in American seed catalogs around the 1950s, touted for its improved bloom size, robust plants, and extended flowering season—a perfect blend for gardeners seeking a reliable show of color.
